Digital Learning

As a 21st century school, Philips Academy acknowledges that our students are digital learners who use technology daily to access information and construct new knowledge. This reality has fundamentally changed the role of the classroom teacher and the nature of formal education. Our strategic plan calls for the use of technology as a critical component in the teaching and learning process. Through the purposeful and natural integration of digital tools, we aim to develop more innovative and individualized learning opportunities for all students.

What is Digital Learning?

Digital Learning is "learning facilitated by technology that gives students some element of control over time, place, path, and/or pace." Digital Learners know that learning is not restricted to the school day or the school year, learning is not restricted within the walls of the classroom, learning is not restricted to the pedagogy used by the teacher, and learning is not restricted to the pace of an entire class of students. The Internet and the wide variety of technology tools/devices have given students the ability to learn anytime, anywhere and everywhere at their own pace making it personal and engaging.

Digital Learning is more than students using a laptop or a teacher using a smartboard to show presentations. Digital learning requires a combination of technology, digital content and instruction. All seamlessly working together to reach lifelong learning goals.
